"Je viens de loin, j'écris en français" with Mohammed Aïssaoui and Abdelkader Djemaï
The next literary encounter “Je viens de loin, j’écris en français” will be held online on the 8th of December at 6:30 pm (Paris time) with Mohammed Aïssaoui et Abdelkader Djemaï, two authors from Algerian roots, in partnership with the Institut français d'Algérie.
Abdelkader Djemaï wrote many novels, plays, travel stories, short stories… His style aims for the essential and he puts the emphasis on the stories of ordinary people whose destiny is disrupted by the historical events they witness. In his last novels, he sets his narrative in a larger historical context, such as the relationship between France and Algéria. He is a Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres, and he was awarded the Prix Découverte Albert Camus for Un été de cendres and the Prix Amerigo Vespucci for Camping.
Mohammed Aïssaoui is a novelist, but also a literary critic, journalist for Le Figaro littéraire and essayist specialised in French and Francophone literature. With his writings he makes sure to give a voice to the anonymous, those whose names do not appear in History books but who carry a precious collective memory. In 2010 he won the Prix Renaudot de l’essai and the RFO price for L’Affaire de l’esclave Furcy.
Initiated in 2017, Je viens de loin, j’écris en français events from the Alliance française de Paris Île-de-France invite authors (writers, directors, comics writers…) coming from abroad and who chose the French language to express themselves.
Bernard Magnier explores his guests’ universe through their writing journey, their creation process, their relationship with the French language or their mother tongue, and their personal anecdotes. Journalist, publisher and renowned expert on francophone literatures, Bernard Magnier plans and hosts these events with finesse, sincerity and sagacity.
Since May 2020, and with the support of Institut Français and Fondation des Alliances Françaises, it is online that these events keep on introducing you to some of the greatest francophone authors. Free and open to all, they are the perfect opportunity for a worldwide audience to discuss with major figures of the francophone contemporary literature world.
